Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to common questions about therapy, online sessions, and what to expect when working together. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to reach out.

Before We Begin

  • Virtual therapy is real therapy just without the commute. Sessions are held through SimplePractice, a secure HIPAA-compliant video platform that you can access from any device. All you need is a private space where you feel comfortable talking freely and a reliable internet connection. No waiting rooms, no traffic, no rearranging your schedule around a drive across town. Many clients find that being in a familiar environment actually makes it easier to settle in and do the work. And for the days when life gets chaotic — your car, your lunch break or your back bedroom all count as a private space.

  • Yes! I offer one 15-minute consultation call, free of charge, to answer questions, discuss goals, and determine if we are a good fit for each other. The 15 minute consultation exists specifically for the person who is not quite sure where to start or whether therapy is even the right move right now. It is not a commitment, just a conversation. Come with questions, notice how the interaction feels and trust your gut. If it feels right we take the next step together. If it doesn’t, that’s okay too!

  • Please fill out the form on the contact page and I’ll reach out shortly to schedule a consultation call!

  • Yes, I accept new clients on a rolling basis. If you have made it this far through the FAQ page chances are a part of you is already ready. Reach out through the contact form and expect to hear back within one business day. The rest is just one conversation at a time.

The Therapy Process

  • Sessions are 50 minutes and we typically start with weekly appointments. Meeting weekly in the beginning helps build momentum, establish trust and gives us the consistency needed to do meaningful work together. Around session three or four we will check in and decide together whether weekly sessions are still the right fit or whether a different cadence makes more sense for where you are.

  • The therapeutic relationship is one of the strongest predictors of success in therapy, so fit genuinely matters. The free 15 minute consultation is the best way to get a feel for whether this feels right. Come with questions, notice how you feel during the conversation and trust your gut. If it feels like a good fit we move forward. If it does not that is okay too! Finding the right therapist is worth taking the time to get right.

  • This is one of the most common questions and the honest answer is, it depends. Many clients begin to notice a real shift around the 10 session mark though meaningful growth often continues well beyond that. Some clients come for a focused period of time around a specific life transition. Others find that longer term work allows them to go deeper. We figure that out together based on your goals, your pace and what feels right for you.

  • Warm, collaborative and judgment free, but not a blank slate. The approach here is relational, meaning that I want to ensure you feel seen, heard and understood. Sessions draw from Internal Family Systems, Emotionally Focused Therapy, attachment based work and systemic therapy. And while there is no pressure to go anywhere you are not ready to go, expect thoughtful questions and honest observations that gently challenge you to see yourself and your patterns more clearly. That balance of warmth and intentional challenge is often where the real work happens.

  • Although I’m an out-of-network provider, many clients are able to receive partial reimbursement for therapy through their insurance plans. I’m happy to provide a superbill that you can submit for out-of-network benefits.

  • When you speak with your insurance provider, ask them the following questions:

    • Do I have out of network benefits for mental health therapy?

    • What is my deductible?

    • My therapist uses the CPT code 90834-95 (individual), what can I expect to be reimbursed once my deductible is met?

    • What percent of the session fee is covered before and after the deductible is met?

    • When does my deductible reset?

    • How do I submit the superbill?

  • A superbill is a detailed receipt provided after each session that you can submit directly to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. A superbill can be provided upon request. Contact your insurance provider directly to find out what your out-of-network benefits cover before your first session.

  • Operating as a private pay practice means treatment decisions are made between you and your therapist. There is no requirement to assign a formal diagnosis, no session limits set by a third party and no insurance company involved in your clinical record.

For someone already navigating the vulnerability of starting therapy, knowing that your records stay private and your care stays personal is not a small thing. It is the whole thing.
